1. Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (subclass 491) Visa REPLACING Skilled Regional (Provisional)(subclass 489) Visa
a) Increase in points awarded:
b) Ranking order for invitations will change as follows:
– Primary applicants without a partner OR Primary applicants with a skilled partner
– Primary applicants with a partner who can demonstrate Competent English, but does not have the skills for skilled partner points
– Primary applicants with a partner who is ineligible for either Competent English or Skilled partner points.
c) The period required to live and work in regional Australia in order to apply for permanent residency 191 visa will increase from 2 years to 3 years.
d) Visa validity will increase from 4 years to 5 years
e) Minimum income requirement of $53,900 + superannuation per annum
f) Definition of regional Australia will be expanded: all areas of Australia except metropolitan areas of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Perth (Newcastle, Wollongong and NSW Central Coast will now be included as regional)

2. Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional)(subclass 494) Visa REPLACING Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme (Permanent)(subclass 187) Visa
a) Remove of up-front permanent residency
b) The requirement to live and work in regional Australia for 3 years to be eligible to apply for new permanent residency 191 visa
c) Streams will reduce from 3 to 2: Employer-Sponsored and Labour Agreement
d) Visa validity will increase from 3 years to 5 years
e) Change of SAF (Special Australian Fund) Levy
f) Minimum income requirement of $53,900 + superannuation per annum
g) Definition of regional Australia will be expanded: all areas of Australia except metropolitan areas of Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Gold Coast and Perth (Newcastle, Wollongong and NSW Central Coast will now be included as regional)

a) Applicants will need to hold new skilled provisional visas 494 or 491 visa
b) The requirement to live in regional Australia from 2 years to 3 years
