According to the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS), the early childhood education and care sector is facing a shortage of qualified staff.Approximately 180 workers leave this section every week due to low wages and poor working conditions. Despite this labor shortage, the proportion of migrant workers has been increasing. The ABS also went on to say that foreign-born care workers are generally younger and better-educated on average, with nearly one in every four holding a bachelor’s degree. In comparison, only one in 12 Australian-born care workers have a similar credential. Furthermore,in terms of postgraduate studies, as many as seven per cent of migrant workers have completed a program, while only 0.7% of their Australian counterparts have a degree.
