Government supports the Goulburn Valley to fill critical skill shortages

The Goulburn Valley in Victoria is the latest region to take advantage of a Designated Area Migration Agreement (DAMA) The agreement will contribute to a further $144m in economic output, as well as drive population growth and create additional job opportunities for Australians. 

Local businesses can apply individually to access the DAMA from 2022. Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs Alex Hawke said the agreement demonstrates the Government’s commitment to supporting regional Australia through the economic recovery phase of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Australia Migration services work closely with regional Business in attracting overseas talents. The Australian Government has established a number of programs to facilitate the movement of skilled migrants and international students into Australia, including: Education and Training Visas, Skilled Migration Visas, Family Visas, Business Visas Tourist and Work Holiday Visas and Special Category Visas . 

These initiatives have been designed to help employers find employees who are highly qualified or experienced, but also willing to relocate.

In this update, 

The Minister for Immigration, Citizenship, Migrant Services and Multicultural Affairs Alex Hawke said the signing of the Goulburn Valley DAMA agreement further demonstrates that Australia is committed to supporting regional areas through this economic recovery phase of COVID-19. 

With over 74,000 vacancies in regional centres across Australia there are particular openings for skilled migrants as we look towards their return upon completion of this period. 

Although it is always preferred to hire locals first where possible because they will be more familiar with Australian work culture and expectations it has been difficult for employers who are having a tough time finding staff so now these agreements help alleviate some worry on both ends by providing jobs which were previously hard if not impossible to find.
