The Department of Home Affairs has announced changes to the 186 transition pathway for those holding 457 or 482 subclass visas in any occupation that comes under short term stream.
From 1 July 2022, specified subclass 482 visa holders and subclass 457 visa holders in the short-term stream will be able to apply for permanent residency through the Permanent Residence Transition stream of Employer Nomination Scheme (subclass 186) visa.
Subclass 482 visa holders who have been in Australia for at least 12 months between 1 February 2020 and 14 December 2021, and are employed by an Australian business, will be eligible for the pathway to permanent residency.
People who, on April 18, 2017, held a 457 visa or had applied for a 457 visa that was subsequently granted can apply for permanent resident visa.
If you meet the above criteria and have worked for your sponsoring employer for two of the last three years while holding a 482 visa in the short term stream, you can on 1 July 2022 apply for a 186 transition visa, this is the best time to apply for a 186 transition Visa.
The Amendments also allow those with employer-based sponsorship to apply based on two years employment less any periods when they were stood down or had their work hours reduced due to the pandemic.
