Breaking News: New 482 SID and 858 NIV Visas Are Launching Soon! Updated CSOL List Features Over 400 Occupations Eligible for PR!

Hello everyone! Exciting updates are here from AMS!

1. The New CSOL Occupation List is Officially Released

On December 3, the Department of Immigration unveiled the updated Consolidated Skilled Occupation List (CSOL). This list will be used for the upcoming 482 SID visa, which is set to replace the current 482 TSS visa. Even more thrilling, both the 482 SID and the 858 NIV visa will officially launch on December 7, 2024.

1.1 Key Highlights of the CSOL List

The new CSOL list includes 456 occupations, doubling the number in the previous Medium and Long-Term Occupation List. This expansion opens up opportunities for many professionals to directly apply for permanent residency (PR) through the 186 Employer Nomination Scheme (DE stream) without needing two years of work under a 482 visa.

However, this CSOL list currently applies only to the Core Skill Stream. Additional updates for other streams are expected, so don’t worry if your occupation isn’t on this list yet.

What this means for you:
If your occupation is on the list and you’re considering PR through the 186 DE pathway, now is a great time to take action. Feel free to contact AMS immigration experts for tailored advice to ensure all your requirements, such as work experience, qualifications, and skills assessments, are in place.

2. The New 858 NIV Visa: A Gateway for High Achievers

With the 858 NIV visa launching on December 7, individuals with significant skills or achievements are preparing to enter the invitation pool. This visa has gained attention due to its low language requirements and no residency restrictions, making it a compelling option for many.

2.1 Challenges of the NIV Visa

While the benefits are attractive, the NIV visa isn’t for everyone. Applicants must demonstrate international recognition in their field—a high bar for many. Additionally, the invitation-based system and quota limitations mean success is not entirely within the applicant’s control, as it depends on government policies.

3. Should You Choose the 482 SID or Stick with the 482 TSS Visa?

The 482 SID visa will soon replace the TSS visa as the primary employer-sponsored visa. Many are wondering whether to wait for the SID visa or apply for the TSS visa now.

Here’s AMS’s advice:
If you’re eligible for the TSS visa now, don’t delay—apply immediately. The TSS visa’s requirements are stable, and waiting for the SID visa could mean facing higher English standards or other uncertainties. Applicants with IELTS scores of 5 should especially act quickly, as the SID visa may increase the minimum score requirement.
