From the 16th of November 2019, the 187 (RSMS) visa will be replaced by a new skilled visa known as the 494 visa. Similar to the RSMS, the 494 also comes in two streams, Employer-sponsored stream and labor agreement stream.
Applicants for the 494 visa can now view the 494 skilled occupation list (Medium and Long-term strategic skills list) and consider the possibility of finding employment.
Some of the occupations in the 494 list (Medium and Long-term strategic skills list) include:
Civil Engineer
Early childhood teacher
Registered nurse (aged care/medical/community health,etc)
Welder
Chef

With roughly 2 weeks away for the 494 visa to be launched, 494 visa holders are also entitled to upcoming benefits. For example, holders of the 494 (as well as 491 visa) are eligible for Medicare health support commencing 16th November 2019.
Liz Dowd, Delegate for Minster of Health, declared that:
(a) Each of the following persons who are or were located in Australia are included in the specified class of persons:
(i) a person who is a holder of a Subclass 491 (Skilled Work (Provisional)) visa granted under the Migration Act 1958;
(ii) a person who is a holder of a Subclass 494 (Skilled Work – Employer Sponsored (Provisional)) visa granted under the Migration Act 1958, as being a person who shall be treated as being an eligible person for the purposes of the Act.
(b) This Order commences on 16 November 2019.
